I also designed the Hisar flower (on the right) on 8 March 2021. It is not a Froebel variation. But it is made from square paper. So, I decided to include it in Istanbul series.
Hisar means "citadel" in Turkish. Istanbul has two citadels, one on the European side and the other on the Anatolian side. I usually think of the European one when I hear the word.
How to make the Hisar flower
Step 1
Fold the diagonals.
Step 2
Fold both sides in half.
Fold the water bomb base. Mind that color side will be up.
Fold the corner up to the middle of the open side.
Open the piece a little and see the square.
Squash fold the square.
See the shape below.
Fold one flap up following the right line.
Repeat three more times.
See the triangles when you open the model after opening the shape a little.
Fold the triangle to the right.
Repeat three more times.
Open the triangles you folded.
Fold a diagonal as shown.
Repeat 3 more times.
Step 16
Here comes the tricky part. I don't know how to explain it. So, I'll mostly show it. Open one flap.
Fold towards the diagonal you folded in step 14-15.
One corner of the squash fold will look like below. There should be a downward line.
Repeat it to the next corner. Mind that the flap between the corners should be open like that. (It is inclined to close towards the middle.
Fold all the corners. The flower is almost done.
Hold the flap between the petals and fold it to lock the petals.
Repeat 3 more times.
The Hisar flower is ready!
