I created this piece on 27 March 2021. I started with Kilyos base and wanted to see where it goes.
I tried hard to find a way for assembling the units without glue. I did it but it is still complicated. I'll update this post if I can find a simpler way. You can glue the pieces if you find it hard.
Asiyan is a beautiful neighborhood in Istanbul. It means "bird's nest".
How to make the Asian wreath
Step 1
Fold a windmill base.
Step 2
Fold the middle corners half way up to the outer corners.
Unfold and fold the upper corners to the middle.
Squash fold all the corners.
Fold the the sides of the upper corner inside.
Fold the shape half from behind.
Open the left corner to the right and fold.
Turn the model over and fold the right flap out. The unit is ready.
Let's assemble two pieces. (You'll need 8 of them.) Place the units like that.
Fold the left pointed corner behind. Leave the one on the right as it is.
Fold the little corner to the back, too. In this case, it is the little red corner you'll see on step 10.
Turn the model over. Open the right corner and tuck the left flap in. If you like you can leave it here and glue the units.
Here comes the tricky part. Fold the tucked flap together with the little triangle that belongs to the next unit.
Fold the lower part upwards together with the next unit and tuck it under the previous fold. Don't forget to leave the pointed corner as it is.
Two units are assembled. Repeat it for the rest of them.
If you fold the Asian wreath and share it on Instagram or Facebook, please don't forget to tag @origamidekor!
