My Fifth Design: Galata Flower

I designed Galata flower (on the left) on 8 March 2021. It is again a Froebel variation with squash folds. And I think I'm done with this style for now. The rest of my designs already changed.

Galata is a historical neighborhood in Istanbul with the famous Galata Tower. It's somewhere I like and somewhere touristic. I think it suits this delicate flower.

How to make the Galata flower

Step 1

Start with the pinwheel base.

Step 2

Fold the corners up. (We're following Kilyos base again.)

Step 3

Open the flaps you folded in step 2. This time we need the creases for later.

Step 4

Fold all the corners to the half way to the crease.

Step 5

Squash fold the corners.

Step 6

Repeat step 5 for all the corners. We have the Kilyos base again.

Step 7

Fold the edge to the middle.

Step 8

Repeat three more times.

Step 9

Hold and fold the corners like that. You'll have little diagonal folds on each side.

Step 10

It will look like this when you fold them down.

Step 11

Take the flap behind to the front after you fold diagonals.

Step 12

Repeat step 9-10-11 three more times. 

Step 13

Fold each petal on each sides a little backwards. This will give the model more stability and a flower-like look.

Step 14

Repeat three more time and there you have it.

Step 15

If you like you can fold the middle corners up for a final touch.
