My Sixteenth Design: Sariyer Swirl Star

 

I created this Froebel variation on 21 March 2021. I named it Sariyer, a municipality in Istanbul, where Kilyos is in.

This design somehow feels incomplete. But I'll share it anyway. I may update it later.

An Instragram message told me that it looks like the beginning of a tessellation. Why not? :)

How to fold the Sariyer swirl star

Step 1

Start with the Kilyos base.

Step 2

Fold the sides to the middle. You'll remember this and the next step from Pera candle holder.

Step 3

Tuck the folded corners inside.

Step 4

Repeat three more times.

Step 5

Turn the model over and push the sides to the middle.

Step 6

See the smaller square.

Step 7

Fold one corner to the right. We're basically twisting the model.

Step 8

Push the fold.

Step 9

Bring the upper corner down like that. It should point left.

Step 10

Repeat step 7-8-9 three more times.

The model is ready.

This is how it looks from behind.

Step 11 (Optional)

You can fold the pointy corners inside to give it a more flower like look.
