My Thirty-Second Design: Gülhane Ornament and Box Lid

I created this design on 3 May 2021 as a Froebel variation.

Gülhane is a park next to Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. It literally means "house of roses".

How to fold Gulhane ornament

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the middle corners up.

Step 3

Unfold and fold the middle corners half to the crease.

Step 4

Unfold and fold the upper corners to the last crease. Then squash fold the corners.

Step 5

Fold the flaps to the middle as shown.

Step 6

Repeat on all corners.

Step 7

Fold the corners as shown below.

Step 8

Repeat on all corners.

Step 9

Unfold the corners and fold them inside.

Step 10

Push down the corners a little to get a fluffy look.

Step 11

Repeat on all corners

Step 12

Fold the middle corners up. You can curve them for a better look.

Step 13

Fold the little corners up, too. The ornament version is ready.

Step 14

You can fold the sides if you want to make an alternative lid to the Istinye box.

You can use Gulhane both as an ornament and a box lid.
