My Eighty-Fourth Design: Fethiye Bowl

I created this design on 2 October 2021. Fethiye is both an Aegean holiday town and a mosque, formerly a church, in Istanbul.

How to fold the Fethiye bowl

Step 1

Fold a square base.

Step 2

Fold like a bird base for the octagonal lines.

Step 3

You can fold the flaps back.

Or cut them to get a clean octagon.

Step 4

Fold the tip to the top line.

Step 5 

Fold the tip to the half line.

Step 6

Fold the middle line between the creases.

Step 7

Make a sink fold. (You can also choose to sink the bigger octagon. Then, the end result will be less concave.)

Step 8

Make a twist fold to the right or the left but don't fold the top part.

The back side should be flat.

Step 9

Bring the corners down using the crease just below.

Step 10

Push all the corners to the middle. There should be a hole in the middle.

Step 11

Make a triangle fold to the corners. Their direction doesn't matter.

Step 12

Open up the corners and see the triangle.

Step 13

Make a sink fold until the next line in the middle. 

Step 14

Repeat seven more times.

Step 15

Fold the flaps as shown. You should have a star shape in the middle, and the folds should be equal.

Step 16

Fold the outside corners to the back so that you have a rounder shape. The bowl will be concave as you fold them back.
