My Sixty-Fifth Design: Zeyrek Flower

I created this design on 18 July 2021. Zeyrek is a historical mosque, formerly a church, in Istanbul.

How to fold the Zeyrek flower

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners in quarters.

Step 3

Squash fold the corners.

Step 4

Turn the model over and pinch the square in the middle.

Step 5

Turn the model over and pinch the flaps in the middle.

Step 6

Turn the model over and fold the squash folded corners back.

Step 7

Squash fold the middle square as shown.

Step 8

Pinch the bottom half of the squash folded corners so that the sides of the square hold tight.

Step 9

Repeat three more times.

Step 10

Turn the model over. It should look like this.

Step 11

Open the petal out. You can shape them as you like.

Step 12

The model should look like this on the back. If needed, pinch more to make it sturdier.
